Knight of Hands – Survival
(Cards of Struggle)
The Knight of Hands marks the primary and fundamental function of cognition’s encounter with the world: shock and disorientation. This is about survival. Surviving with what you have at hand, by any means necessary. Every relationship produces consciousness. The chaotic state of affairs summons questions about relationships and permanence. Someone who a moment ago was a friend can become a hostage, a refugee. Someone who was an unknown stranger can become a companion. The card invokes the distinction between doing what is beneficial and doing what is worthy (the distinction between pure reason and practical reason; between Sophia and Phronesis). Now, thinking must be examined from the perspective of wellbeing. Of what protects and fortifies.
Resourcefulness is the name of the game. And measurement is determined by desire: a degree of suspicion, a degree of adventurousness, a degree of compassion and empathy. A degree of aggression. Degrees of hope for continued existence. Degrees of perfecting patience and vigilance, of honing the powers of improvisation that will help you to become a hunter, a creator, an exploiter of opportunities.
Nothing is over forever, just like nothing ever starts from the very beginning. You bring the past with you: what you loved, and did, and thought. It is worth noting the dream that everything will be as it once was, the dream that you will meet yourself once again. This is a source of stability. A possibility to establish a horizon. To start understanding what for? And Why?
To see the winds of destiny once again blowing the sails of merchant ships in the distance, the winds of nature that move the wheel of the windmill. The winds of the revolution that blow and kindle the bonfire, the rise of a new civilization. Times of renewing life forms.
Necessity is the mother of all invention.
